For All Ages:

Thank You Breakfast

In thanksgiving for your gifts and faithful support of Christ’s ministry, the Stewardship Ministry will be hosting a “Thank you” breakfast on Sunday November 6 after the 8:30 AM service and also after the 11 AM service. We did this last year and it was so much fun we want to do it again. During the breakfast we will be sharing some of stories about the difference your gifts make.

Help Spirit of Joy

The ELCA’s mission start in North Ridgeville, Spirit of Joy, is in a time of transition. It is experiencing a dip in worship attendance as it awaits a new mission developer. The synod is asking surrounding congregations to help by sending over 8-10 people once a month to help make worship more lively and comfortable in the interim. Emmanuel’s turn is the second Sunday of the month, which is November 13. Please sign up in the worship area if you would be willing to help the mission there. Spirit of Joy is located at 37150 Sugar Ridge Road. Worship begins at 11 AM.

The New Covenant Christmas Stockings

Christmas is right around the corner and children all over the world eagerly anticipate the receiving of gifts. Please continue your generosity with New Covenant stockings. Remember to keep the gifts contained within the stockings as attached items are separated and given to other children. So, maybe take more than one stocking and delight two children. Don’t know what to fill the stocking with? Take your children or grandchildren and let them pick out the items, they know what kids like! Happy shopping!

God bless you and Merry Christmas,

Paulette Goytowski

Borrowing Bookshelf

Just outside the preschool area is a Borrowing Bookshelf. It houses children's books, videos and CDs. Sunday school kids, preschool families, parents, grandparents and child caregivers should all take a few minutes to pick something to take home for the week to enrich your lives. Just return it when you are done so that it can be shared again.

Community Meals

Thanks to a consortium of churches and agencies, a free hot meal is served somewhere in the city of Elyria every single day of the year. Volunteers from Emmanuel provide two of these meals at Saint Andrew Episcopal Church on the first and second Mondays of every month. We started out serving about 40. Now the numbers can get up into the 120s. Each time it takes a crew of about five or six under the direction of one of our experienced crew chiefs. This is a wonderful community service project for anyone from kids on up to senior citizens. Contact the church office if you would like to be a part of this satisfying ministry. Pictures of it are here.

For Kids:

Boy Scouts

Boy Scouts meet on Thursday evenings. For information contact the church office.

For Youth:

Sunday Class

There is a Sunday class specifically designed for high school youth. The content and format is informal and is guided by the group's interests. The gang meets in the undercroft during the education hour from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. during the school year.

Faith Lens

Faith Lens is a free online weekly Bible study for youth. It is posted every week and connects a current news story with the bible readings for the upcoming Sunday. It is written by a different writer every week and is usually posted by Tuesday. Check it out at blogs.elca.org/faithlens.

For Adults:

Prayer Quilts (Prayers & Squares)

Prayer QuiltThe idea is simple, yet powerful. As small lap-sized quilts are made, a heavy thread is at used at certain points to hold the layers together. The ends of this thread are tied with a double, double square knot. As each knot is tied, a silent prayer is offered for someone in special need. The finished quilt is then given to that person. The group of crafters will meet in the Fellowship Hall from 9:30 a.m. to Noon for quilt creation. To request a prayer quilt for a person in need, use a form from the pamphlet rack at the rear of the sanctuary. They welcome all who wish to lend a hand even if it is simply cutting out fabric.
