We invite you to share our commitment to Jesus Christ and to join with us in a Christian ministry of worship, learning, witness, and service by becoming a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Elyria, Ohio.
Ways of Becoming a Member
Baptism: If you have never been baptized with water in the name of Father, Son and Holy Spirit, membership comes by committing yourself to Jesus and receiving God's grace through Baptism. For adults and children (preschool age and older) baptism is administered after a period of instruction. For infants, baptism is administered upon the promise of parents to bring their children regularly to services of worship and to raise their children in the Christian faith.
Transfer: If you have been baptized and are on the rolls of another Christian congregation, membership can come in many cases by transfer. You simply ask the church to which you currently belong to send a “Letter of Transfer” to Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Elyria, Ohio. Membership at Emmanuel is established the day your “Letter of Transfer” is officially received and approved by our Church Council. Orientation sessions with the pastor are arranged as the situation dictates.
Affirmation of Baptism: If you have been baptized but are not on the rolls of another church, or if your current church does not transfer you, membership comes by Affirmation of Baptism. By affirming once again your original baptismal promise, we, at Emmanuel recognize that you are already committed to Jesus and a member of Christ's church and that you are now choosing to be affiliated with this congregation. This is done as part of a regular morning service after a period of orientation and instruction.
